I’m An Acadian-Canadian, Eh!

Post was created on July 2nd, 2012

“I’m An Acadian-Canadian, Eh?” – is a tribute to my Acadian family roots and tells of the tragic as well as the triumphant part of little known Canadian history, including the legend of Evangeline, through songs & storytelling sprinkled with a touch of humour. The show was written predominately for an English audience because in my travels, I have learned that they do not know very much about Acadian history so that’s my mission – to share our rich culture with them.

I finally figured out how to select audio clips from my upcoming CD soundtrack, combine them with some photos, try to have the photos change at the right musical moment and make the photos relevant to the part of the song they portray.  Hats off to editors everywhere!! I have sure come to learn to appreciate your what it takes to do this work now!

I have presented this show 5 times now and have 4 more bookings for the Fall – 1 confirmed in North Bay & 3 to be confirmed (Barrie, Belleville & TBA in PEI).

If you would like to see this show in your area, contact me and we can bring it to your town or city, eh!

  5. Lovely pictures Jeanette. Your show “I’m An Acadian-Canadian, Eh!” at the Trent Port Historical Society was an awesome experience (thanks so much for including a picture from the show in your promo/video and for sharing your talents!)

  6. Hi I really enjoyed your singing and your wonderful voice. Thank you so very much. Your photos are great, are you from New Brunswick ??

  7. Merci! My parents are from the Evangeline Region in PEI. What part of New Brunswick are you from?

  8. My father was from Cocagne, New Brunswick and my mother from a small town outside of Moncton.
I have relatives in Clyde River, P.E.I. and my Arsenault’s originally came from Mount Carmel.
Do you know Angele Arsenault the singer from PEI….. I am sure you do. Her brother Ray Arsenault is married to Yvonne, my husband’s cousin. They now live in Nova Scotia where my husband came from. Are you related to Eddie Arsenault the fiddler from the Mount Carmel area?

  9. Small world! Angele is my Mom’s sister & Raymond is their brother!! My parents live in Union Corner & can see the Mont Carmel church from their kitchen window!

  10. That is so great. I wonder if Ray & Yvonne have seen your site, I spoke to them both on the phone about a week ago, but before I located your site. I will try to send it to them.Norma

  11. Thanks, Norma! I stayed with their daughters Carole & Lissa just last March as well as Jeannine’s 2 daughters! So got caught up a bit on the news.

    Hi Jeanette,
I learned from Lucie LeBlanc Consentino that you just joined our Acadian group. Good for you. Your singing is very beautiful, and so are you! I’m not surprised that you’re related to Angele, I could hear some of her in your voice while you were singing. I have met her and heard her many times. Such a great person. I now live in Florida, but was born in Moncton, NB, and my Doucett roots are from Tignish, P.E.I. Visited there this past summer with my three sisters, and we had such a wonderful time. By the way, many years ago, my husband and I heard a wonderful singer by the name of Jeannita Arsenault (her married name)…I think she might have been a Gallant.
Do you know what happened to her? She, too, was such a great singer. It must be something in the water or the soil, in P.E.I.!!!

  13. Hi Jeannine!
Great to meet you here – thank you for your kind comments! Nice to connect with a fellow Acadian! My parents are in Florida during the winter and live in PEI during the summer… I know, I know ….poor them…haha! I think the singer you are thinking of is Jeannita Richard – I heard her sing last summer – she is still great! Yup about the water & soil in PEI!!
