This Is My Canada Presents

Post was created on October 31st, 2015

MLH-5“This Is My Canada Presents” – a brand new series showcasing Canadian musical artists.

I wrote my song,  “This Is My Canada/Mon cher Canada” to express my deep pride in being Canadian with an initial vision to travel across the country and share my music, photos, experiences at my shows.

Now that dream has been expanded to become “This Is My Canada Presents” – a collective of artists sharing their stories, songs & pride in being Canadian from coast to coast to coast.  All songs must be either about Canada or written by a Canadian.

The format for the concert will include a collaborative song that I will write with each guest prior to their appearance which we will premiere at the concert.  It will also include a brief talk show segment when I will interview them about their careers.  And of course, audiences will be able to hear the artists perform their songs.

I am SO pleased to announce that Marie-Lynn Hammond will be my first guest on January 27, 2016 at Eastminster United Church in Belleville, Ontario.

Hammond has been called one of Canada’s best songwriters with a unique voice, dynamic stage presence and brilliant songs ranging from wickedly funny to hauntingly personal – in both French and English. She co-founded the seminal folk group Stringband which included the late, much-loved musician, Zeke Mazurek whom we both had the honour of performing with.

Joining Marie-Lynn will be multi-instrumentalist, Tom Leighton whose credits include a PEI Music Award, a Porcupine Award, musical theatre productions, TV soundtracks, radio airplay and arrangements (one of which was used by Rita MacNeil with the Men of the Deeps) plus CDs of his original music.

TOM PromoConcert #2 will be April 27th featuring Andy Forgie & Concert #3 will be June 22nd featuring The Starpainters (led by Andy Sparling – jazz & swing).

Stay tuned for more shows as they get booked.

Have a suggestion?  Send me  your recommendation – my dream is to travel with this show across Canada.

It has been far too long since we connected! But one never forgets the special people we have known. I’m loving your inspirational music. This Is My Canada was such a big part of my kids’ growing up. Congratulations on the show! There are many wonderful west coast artists and it would be great to see you out here!
