My Debut CD
It was a labour of love and it was a labour – literally! I started recording in March 1993, not knowing that I was pregnant with our daughter. She tumbled around in my belly throughout the whole recording process. I’ve heard of holding up the radio to your belly for the baby to hear but this took it to an extreme!
It was released in 1994, she was born in December and I made the decision to be a full time Mom. So I played a lot locally & occasionally travelled but was never away more than a day or 2 at a time. Prior to this, in 1992, I was lucky that one of my songs, “This Is My Canada’ was adopted by the Kinsmen & Kinette Clubs of Canada as their official theme song for their Proud To Be Canadian Tour and they invited me to sing it at several of their conventions including Penticton, BC, Fort McMurray, AB, Brockville, ON, to name a few. They even paid to have a limited number of cassettes made to sell to their club members.
I decided to include it on this album with the intention of one day releasing it as a full album of “Canadiana” songs to be made available to students across Canada as well as organizations interested in producing “Canada Day” and other Canadian events.
In 1992, the song was also adopted by HMCS Preserver as their official song for overseas duty back in 1992. And I had the honour of singing it for HRH Queen Elizabethe II during her “walkabout” in Ottawa that same year.
