Sweet sixteen with a smile as bright as the sun. Kait loved life, loved people and people loved her. Gone too soon and missed like mad. Her legacy lives on in Kait’s Comfort Kits which are currently being developed and items for the kits being sourced. We are almost there and hope to have them ready early in the new year. We now have over $15,000 in trust thanks to the generosity of so many who have contributed to the fund.
Items we are looking at to include are soft face cloths & hand towels; soft kleenex; spa kit that includes natural shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap and deoderant; natural lip balm; crossword puzzle book & pen; socks with rubber bottom; toothbrush, paste & cover; and, Mio (flavour squirt). Once we finalize the items, I will post. Thanks to everyone who have offered to help us stuff the bags – will keep you posted on that, too.
Thank you for your love and support. I still take it one day at a time and continue to take 1 step forward, 2 back, 3 back, 2 forward….I have come to learn that grieving is the science of learning how to cope and finding reasons to keep moving forward. I know Kait really wanted these kits to be distributed to other people facing daily life in a hospital bed so that keeps me going.
We are forever grateful to the amazing, extraordinary care she received in the oncology palliative unit at the Ottawa General Hospital. Guardian angels all. They will be the recipients of the first set of kits. Please feel free to leave a comment – love to hear from you always.
Beautiful. So happy they are coming to fruition. I’m sure we could get notepads and pens and such from financial company promo items as well if that might be of help.
You’ve got my help if you can use it, just let me know. Hugs
People are being so kind and generous to date. Hadn’t thought of asking a pen company – thanks for the suggestion, Sandra.
Hi Jeanette – I read an article online yesterday in The St. Catharines Standard about a group in Niagara that are doing comfort kits for oncology patients. You might be able to contact them re sources for some of the items that you are looking for. Their list seemed similar.
Thanks for the suggestion, Bonnie! So happy to hear others are doing the same for their communities.
This is a heartwarming project. Kait was so thoughtful to think about caring for others amidst her pain. Quite a legacy she is leaving. I hope her story is included in the kits if you feel it is appropriate.
That was Kait alright – always thinking about others. So so proud of her for a multitude of reasons and yes you bet I will tell her story.
This is a very exciting adventure and I know Kait is encouraging you on from a nearby cloud.
No doubt, Mary! She will be exhausted and in need of rest after zooming around the multiverses admiring the nebulas, witnessing supernovas, exploring black holes, etc.
