Welcome to Episode 10 in my 2024 Monday Music Matters “Song-A-Week” series of stories in memory and in honour of my daughter, Kait.
This week’s feature song is the Marching Band song – with a twist.
Song link: Marching Band Song
I wrote this song to help children learn the various instruments in a marching band. But halfway through the recording, my co-producer and I thought it would be fun – and funny – to add a little fellow who wants so badly to play the bagpipes with the band.
Can’t you just picture him? The kind of enthusiastic, music-loving, heart on his sleeve little boy who finds his passion and wants to share it with everyone. By the end, he gets invited in to play along with the band. One day I would love to see this song in a cartoon with the little boy running to catch up with the band and playing his bagpipes with all the joy pouring out of his heart.
In the meantime, a special shout out to Michael Brethour, photojournalist in Belleville, Ontario, for creating this video to go along with the Marching Band song – I just love it!
